She lives in Reno, Nevada, with her husband.

          Bucket-list travel destinations blend with movies in a presentation by author, film reviewer and world traveler Robin Holabird called Around the World in 80 Movies at Sundance Bookstore in Reno Oct. 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Blending movie memories and colorful travel essays, Holabird offers an extensive and entertaining exploration of locations far and wide, close to home and everywhere in between.

Her new book Around the World in 80 Movies explores heights at a Machu Picchu summit plus King Kong’s adventures at the top of the Empire State Building. She examines film noir sites in San Francisco, romance in Paris, art in the South of France or in the Nevada deserts of Burning Man. She takes her readers on epic journeys to Jordan, Scotland and Egypt, among other exotic places, all the while providing insights and witty travel advice.

With expertise from a career of finding sites used in projects by P.T. Anderson, Taylor Hackford and Clint Eastwood plus extensive travel as editor of Locations Magazine, Holabird celebrates the connection between movies and locations.

Holabird’s weekly film reviews air on Reno’s NPR affiliate KUNR at 88.7 FM every Friday, and she provides regular film commentary for KOH.

Her first book, Elvis, Marilyn and the Space Aliens, explores how movies and television programs affect Nevada’s public image. Both of Holabird’s books reflect her longtime experience as a film commissioner for the State of Nevada, where she assisted such projects as Love Ranch, Sister Act and CSI.

She honed writing skills with a degree in Journalism from Humboldt State University and reporting stints at KOLO, the Sparks Tribune and other media outlets. She earned certification and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Nevada-Reno.  An outdoor enthusiast who loves photographing locations throughout the world, Robin is a regular hiker and runner who finished the Boston Marathon six times and just completed the last 100K of the Camino de Santiago (The Way) in Spain.
